ROMANS 1:24d-27

Romans 1:24d “. . .through the lusts of their own hearts,
to dishonor their own bodies between

These words bring us to the limits of lust, to the depth of dishonor. The Christian looks at homosexuality in two ways: one is toward the thing itself; the other is toward the person involved. We hate the deed, but we bring a message of love to the doer.
The abnormality of homosexuality should cause every human being to react with repugnance. There should be a horror among us even in contemplating such abounding iniquity. However, to those suffering mental anguish and guilt over their plight, we must present hope.

Romans 1:25 “Who changed the truth of God into a
lie, and worshiped and served the
creature more than the Creator, who
is blessed for ever. Amen.”

This verse reveals the cause of homosexuality. It is, in its inception, a spiritual problem. This explains why the world sees no hope for homosexuality. Since the cause is spiritual, the cure is spiritual, and the world cannot understand such things.
Homosexuality is the direct result of rejecting the truth about God and believing a lie instead. Men reject the truth (right conceptions) about God and believe a lie (false conceptions). When men go wrong in their concept of God, all forms of moral degradation follow. Anyone who believes morality can be sustained without religion is ignorant.
The homosexual has rejected the truth that all good things are found in God and come from knowing Him. The homosexual has received the lie that there is good in man and satisfaction comes through indulgence.
He has put the creature above the Creator–that is, he loves gratifying his own desires more than he loves to please God. He has put his love in the wrong place. Wrong living grows directly out of wrong loving. What we do grows directly out of what we love. If we do not love God supremely, our lives begin to crumble.
When men obscure the difference between God and His creation, it is easy to obscure the order and relationships of things in the creation. For example, men picture God as an animal or a grotesque idol; men worship animals; or men use men as women, and women use women as men.
If a man is right with God, he will be able to worship properly, and be able to deal normally with the opposite sex. It may take time and healing, but it can happen.
The homosexual needs to see the spiritual aspect of his wrongdoing. God’s power is needed to overcome this evil. It is a degrading life-style, as Paul reveals.

Romans 1:26a “For this cause God gave them up
unto vile affections:”

“Vile affection” is more accurately “vile passions.” It refers to passions which are degrading, an evil craving for forbidden pleasures. “Men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another” (v. 27a). “Burned in their lust” indicates the rage and intensity of the desire. It is a fire burning out of control and pictures an all-out effort to satisfy depraved desires.
It is a burning within people which leads them to violate decency and propriety and God’s order. They become so consumed by their flaming passion that they abandon all restraint.
Homosexuality is a voluntary insanity which results in a man doing things based on no other reason than to enjoy any pleasure this world supplies. It causes men to become so immersed in the world that they forget the Creator of the world.

Romans 1:26b “. . .for even their women did change
the natural use into that which is against

It is undoubtedly an abnormality, for biological design itself shows that men and women were made for one another. The homosexual who says, “God made me as I am,” is attributing confusion and disorder to the throne room of heaven. It is not God’s doing. Somewhere in the past one chose a twisted and corrupt way to satisfy lustful cravings of the mind. God allows men to wallow in such a quagmire because of “the lusts of their own hearts (v. 24b). Thereby the fault is laid at the homosexual’s own doorstep.

Romans 1:27a “And likewise also the men, leaving the
natural use of the woman, burned in their
lust one toward another; men with men
working that which is unseemly,. . .”

They lose their dignity and commit beastly sins. These are deeds that sink men below brute creatures. When men reach this level of degradation, they have become worse than immoral; they are unmoral–and that is animalistic. If the homosexual act is okay, then what can be called wrong?
In verses 26 and 27 the words translated “women” and “men” are actually “female” and “male.” They are not words used usually to describe humans. They are words used to distinguish nothing more than the gender among cattle.
Thus men are pictured as having sunk to the animal level–or more accurately, even lower than that, for their minds conceive unnatural ways to feed their lusts. At least a bull satisfies his lust by seeking a heifer.
To engage in such abnormality requires the loss of modesty and decency. The capacity for shame is an indicator of moral sensitivity. In its early stages, sin is condemned from within a man’s own heart. Repeated violations and perverse violations eventually harden the capacity for shame. After a while, that which initially caused remorse can be done repeatedly without remorse.
The lust can become so strong that men do nameless things without shame. It becomes a voluntary insanity that results in a man doing things he would never have done if this lust had not destroyed his sense of honor and prudence and decency.
We have seen this truth recently illustrated by militant homosexuals. Their sense of honor has become so destroyed that they publicly avow their condition. They march in the streets, work toward legalization of all sex acts between consenting adults, campaign for religious denominations to recognize and sanction their lifestyle (which some have done).
All these moves for social acceptance, legal sanction, and religious respectability are not insignificant matters. The society that approves this life-style is doomed. Men need to remember the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah. Because of this sin, God rained Hell out of Heaven upon them. Any move toward sanctioning homosexuality contradicts the Bible at every turn. The Bible never hints at it being accepted or even tolerated.
The whole attitude of Scripture is summarized in Leviticus 20:13, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with womankind, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death, their blood shall be upon them.”

Romans 1:27b “. . . and receiving in themselves that
recompense of their error which was meet.”

The word “error” is literally “perversion, deviation.” This is crucial to the issue of homosexuality. It is sin, rebellion against God, a perversion of His intended order.
Not too many years ago, the American Psychiatric Association listed homosexuality as an emotional illness and treated it as such. However, that classification has been dropped, and it is regarded as an alternate life-style.
If you run to a psychiatrist who accepts this position and confess you are a homosexual, you will receive no help. He will tell you are normal. However, your mental agony speaks otherwise.
The world says a homosexual is okay–strange, different, but okay. In other words, the world thinks a homosexual has neither need nor hope of change. He must be left as he is.
Jesus Christ offers deliverance. There were members of the church at Corinth who at one time had been homosexuals (I Cor. 6:9-11). God can deliver a person out of that lifestyle.
The homosexual has the capacity to be normal. Sin has defiled and deformed that person, but Jesus can make a crooked life straight. What is the cure.
1.See God as He really is. He hates your deeds, but loves you.
2.Confess homosexuality as sin, a perversion. There can be no salvation until there is repentance, and there can be no repentance until there is admission of sin.
3.Place your trust in Jesus Christ alone. Beg Him to remove even the desire for it from your life.
4.Separate yourself from all known homosexuals. Stop the overt act immediately. Surround yourself with God’s people and the study of His Word.
You can be helped, but the key is in your hand. It is up to you. The power is God’s, but the decision is yours. If a patient is obstinate and will not submit to the methods prescribed, a physician can not be blamed for the worsening condition. Try Jesus.
